Stock Symbols
The stock symbols are those letters or numbers which is given to the stocks so that they can utilize it for
trading purposes. Technically these symbols are also known as trading symbols. The stock symbols are used so that
the names of the companies have their own entity and there is no confusion when the detail about the stocks of a
particular company has to be studied on the stock chart.
These symbols have various types of indications and mostly it is observed that most of the companies have three
letter words as symbol for their companies name in the stock market. These three letters may represent the name of
their company or the product in which they are dealing. These symbols act as a simple means of communicating as the
stock market operates world wide and the names may be confusing for the people residing in European and Asian
countries.
Basically the symbols contain three letters but a fourth letter is added to show its status in the market. These
symbols have their own interpretation and become an indicator for the trader to understand the credibility of the
company in the stock market which helps him to take quick decisions while trading and saves him from investing in
companies whose credibility is doubtful.
Different stock markets have their own method of denoting symbols and it is very important for a trader to know
all the symbol system prevalent in the stock market as in the present day a trader can do his trading business on
the net and if he is ignorant about the various symbols used he may misinterpret a symbol and incur loss in
business.
So a trader before starting his business should accumulate the entire knowledge about the various methods and
techniques that the symbol is utilized for in the stock market so that while trading he can study the stock chart
and understand it clearly for a profitable business transaction. It has been observed that in the international
trade mostly numbers are used so that the letters do not create any confusion for the traders in Asian and Arabian
countries.
