Stock trading means the process of buying and selling stocks at a particular location and the overall activity of a stock market in a particular country. When the term stock market is used to predict the trend of the stocks, it means the combined stock trading that has taken place in all the stock exchange markets all over the world. This stock trading is done by people who are known as stock traders or stock investors. Stock trading can be done by an individual or by a firm. The stock exchange is the place where the stock trading is done and they supply all the vital information about the stocks which is very essential for stock trading.

Stock trading is a business so to make it profitable strategies have to be followed. There are many old and new stock trading strategies. The new traders must first master the old basic strategies before adopting the new strategies.

The basic strategy for stock trading is hedging which means that the basic objective of the trader is to protect his capital. The trader deals with stocks that involve less risk factor while holding that stock. The risk of falling price can be further reduced by purchasing put option which means that the stock can be sold at a particular price within a stipulated time. The put option is safe as the system is that if the value of the stock goes down the value of the put option will increase. It is always advisable to buy put option on the stock index in place of individual stocks.

Another strategy is to buy stocks by borrowing money from the broker; this is known as buying on margin. It is very risky because if the value of the stock falls the investor will have to incur greater loss. Investing a fixed amount on a regular basis is known as cost and value averaging. In this method the investor sets aside a particular amount from his income which he will invest every month on stocks. This will help him in the fluctuating stock market.

When the price of the stock will fall he will invest less money and get more stocks and vice versa. If these basic strategies are adopted stock trading will become quite profitable.
